Classic Martial Arts Film
I originally saw this on Saturday afternoons back when it was known as Shaolin Challenges Ninja. Brilliant premise that allows the display of different styles of martial arts, both Chinese and Japanese. Kinda funny seeing Gordon Liu in a wig, but the performance wins you over. A must see.

absolutely stunning and totally rad
skills are displayed in this unorthodox style kung fu movie depicted around the differing culture and martial art styles of a husband and wife resulting in conflicts. The fight choreography here is top notch and Lau Kar Leung was on top of his game here. I enjoyed Gordon Lui (although he looked odd with hair) and Yasuaki Kurata. I my opinion, the best Lui/Leung collaboration and a must own in any dragon dynasty collection. I have the IVL version of this movie and would soon be adding the DD version to get more insight as well as the commentary.

Some of the most breathtaking choreography ever filmed and not a single person gets killed!!!!
Ignorance of eachothers culture is the real enemy in Director Lui Chia-Liang's Chinese v.s. Japanese Martial Art's Masterpiece. It's noteworthy that Liang chose real Japanese practitoners for their roles. look for Director Liang as the relunctant "Drunken Boxing" Master. An Absolute treasure of Martial Arts Cinema.

Shaolin Challenges Ninja!!!
This is a worthy effort from Leung. Will this release also include the english dubbed track as did 36th Chamber? Glad to see Dragon Dynasty putting out more Shaw Bros. flicks!!! Keep 'em coming!

GORDY'S STAR SHINES BRIGHTER
arent you guys tired of purchasing dvds that are 15 or $20 without anything extra on them. well we all should praise dd and the weinsteins for making our wallets smile. you can tell bey logan loves his job because he gives us accurate info and some ill featurettes go ahead man do your thing bey my man. but of course half of the credit has to go to the weinsteins for being smart knowing there is a big market in the us for classic martial arts films like this one. but anyways back to the film review, i think the hair gordon liu has is in fact his real hari much like what it was in he has nothing but kung fu now what he had on in 36th chamber was a wig before you seen him bald. but whats so amzing about this film besides the action is that no one dies in this. its just a simple case "anything you can do i can do better" type scenarios and man does that give the movie a comic edge and some charisma. especially when youre dealing with husband and wife martial artists from different countries and different views and cultures and thats exactly how it starts and get ready for some action packed nonstop fun. so get yourself some snacks after you purchase this sity back and relax enjoy over 100 minutes of fun and plus some sure to be dope features that have you watching at least 3 times the same day.

One of the best old school martial arts film ever
This is probably the definitive film to watch if you are looking for a serious display of both Chinese and Japanese weapons and styles. This is one fo the few Chinese films at that time era that seriously respected Japanese martial arts and martial artists. The choreography is top notch.

One of the greatest martial arts movies ever...
Gordon Liu vs. Yasuaki Kurata! That fight alone
is easily worth the price of the dvd. The special features are a fantastic bonus. How about more Chang Cheh films, like 7 Man Army?

Another fantastic job!!
I just picked this up the other day and watched it last night. You guys did it again. I was highly impressed with the whole presentation, from the weapons demo to the remastered sound and picture. I can now throw out the crappy copy I used to watch. Keep them coming, we want more!!

Outstanding. A must see. A Classic Shaw Brothers Production.
Made in a time when most Chinese movies portrayed the Japanese as monsters, this movie does not. This movie shows that both sides have a code of honor, and they each learn to respect the others. Each fight scene is exciting, and well executed. Shows that a martial arts movie does not need over the top gore and death scenes to be good. My favorite Gordon Liu movie.

A THOUSAND BOWS!!!
My God! Where do I start. I've always been a fan of martial arts films since I can remember but never got the chance to see Shaw films (or refused to due to all the cuts and dubbing). Now that I am starting my collection and seen a few I can now say that Heroes of the East is officially my favorite movie of all time. It pits both chinese and japanese disciplines in an honorable way, and that just brings a smile to my face. Big, big thanks to Celestial Pictures for remastering these gems and Dragon Dynasty for releasing them stateside. Kudos to Bey Logan for such an extensive insight on the martial arts film gengre.

Timeless piece with terrific choreography gets A/V upgrade.
Much has already been said about the display of martial arts in this film, and it stands one of the if not THE definitive film where one bear witness to martial arts presented in true cinematic form. The film is timeless in its message and its portrayal of martial arts, and the newly restored picture and sound as well as the wealth of quality extra materials DD is known for makes this yet another peerless release. There has never been such a good time for kung fu buffs as now.

Another Great One
I had this recorded on VHS from the early 80's when they used to run the Saturday Drive In Matinee Kung Fu Movies in the afternoon on TV.
My tape is SO bad quality wise. When i put this DVD on I freaked, the quality was so amazing I could not believe it. I have so many bad quality Kung Fu films that I thought they just made them that way to start out with. We have been terrorized by bad boots of these films our whole lives.. THANK YOU Dynasty Dragon!
